Adolescence can be a very difficult time in an individual’s life. This is a time when a child is trying to discover who they will be as an adult. There are many societal pressures from peers, family (both immediate and extended), and academics. Teens usually experience the highest form of peer pressure in their lifetime during this time period. Added hormonal changes taking place within the adolescent can also be traumatizing during this time. These changes in the body can be a significant source of stress, self-ridicule, and peer-ridicule.

An older adolescent has developed and matured to a point that the precautions taken for younger children are no longer necessary.
